1997年京都议定书公布以来，世界各国针对环境、生态的相关电影陆续发表。而台湾终于推出第一部在戏院上映，以全高空拍摄的画面，讲述台湾环境现况的电影。由侯孝贤监製，国内空拍摄影师齐柏林导演、摄影，吴念真为影片旁白，以《赛德克‧ 巴莱》得到金马奖原创音乐的何国杰配乐。透过飞行在高空的专业摄影设备，我们会看见从未以如此高度和角度所呈现出来的台湾。从高山、海洋、湖泊、河流、森林、稻田、鱼塭、城市等景观，我们看见台湾是如此美丽，但也看到各种环境面对人们的开发而造成的改变、破坏和伤害。土地累积了一道道的疤痕、海洋沉淀了一层层的污染。透过各个不同主题章节的串连，我们化作飞鸟，一起看见台湾，一起去看这个岛屿的美丽与哀愁。
